Minister meets President of Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities

Joan Marie Aylward, Minister of Municipal and Provincial Affairs, met yesterday with Mayor Derm Flynn, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Municipalities to get acquainted and to discuss issues of interest to municipalities throughout the province.

The minister said that she was pleased to meet with Mayor Flynn as she recognized that the Federation was the voice of municipalities and that it makes a valuable contribution to the local governments in our province.

"As I begin working in this new portfolio, I am pleased with my first meeting with Mayor Flynn and feel we have the basis for a good working relationship," said the minister. "I also look forward to meeting with other municipal leaders in the coming weeks."

"I was happy to have the opportunity to meet with the minister this quickly," said Mayor Flynn. "We spoke generally about ongoing issues and also about some new ones. I am looking forward to working with the minister and to hearing her perspectives as they relate to municipal issues. I think we have a good relationship with the department and I hope we can build on that in the future."
