New director and assistant director of public prosecutions appointed

Justice Minister and Attorney General Kelvin Parsons is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas G. Mills as director of public prosecutions and Harold J. Porter as assistant director of public prosecutions. Their appointments are effective immediately.

Thomas G. Mills is the province�s former head of special prosecutions and senior Crown attorney for Eastern Newfoundland. He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, in 1981, and was called to the Newfoundland Bar that same year.

Harold J. Porter has been a Crown attorney with the province�s Department of Justice since 1988. In 1998 he was seconded to the civil division, a position held until his recent appointment as assistant director of public prosecutions. Mr. Porter graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1985 and was called to the Newfoundland Bar in 1986. He is also a member of the Quebec Bar.
