Law Society Discipline Committee appointments

Justice Minister and Attorney General Kelvin Parsons is pleased to announce the appointment of 15 new lay members (non-lawyers) to the province�s Law Society Discipline Committee.

This committee is comprised of 30 individuals, 15 of whom are lay persons. A disciplinary panel selected from the committee can impose sanctions on a lawyer, up to and including disbarment. The term of the appointments is five years.

The new members of the Law Society Discipline Committee are: Donald Crewe, Walter C. Milley, Allister Hann, Dr. Melvin M. Regular, Marilyn Kinden, Clarence Galliott, David E. Locke, Dr. Marina R. Sexton, Morgan S. Hill, Keith Walters, Don Johnson, Joan Greene, Fred Butler, Brenda Genge and Domino Wilkins.

Donald Crewe of ort aux Basques is a retired assistant superintendent of the Cormack District 4 School Board.

Walter C. Milley of St. John�s, now retired, worked for many years as a district health inspector with the province�s Department of Health. Prior to retirement he served as an administrative assistant in the executive division of the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs.

Allister Hann, the sitting mayor of the Town of Burgeo, is a retired conservation and protection officer with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

Dr. Melvin M. Regular is a retired educator who served as executive officer of the Denominational Education Commission and is a former assistant superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies Board of Education and former strategic planning consultant for the province�s Department of Education.

Marilyn Kinden of Heatherton, is a primary school teacher and active community volunteer with the Anglican Church Women�s Association, Women�s Institute and the Bay St. George Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Clarence Galliott, a former mayor of Humber Arm South, currently serves as a town councillor. He works as a project co-ordinator with Ocean Imports and Exports and has held executive positions with various sports and labor organizations.

David E. Locke of Manuel�s, Conception Bay, is a retired school teacher and principal. He was a member of the Stellar Schools Provincial Advisory Council and the provincial chair of the Intermediate Committee for the Williams� Royal Commission on Education, Implementation Secretariat.

Dr. Marina R. Sexton of Norris Point is a practicing dentist in Norris Point and current chairperson of the Bonne Bay Regional Development Master Plan Steering Committee, vice-chair of the Rocky Harbour School Council and president of the Newfoundland Dental Association.

Morgan S. Hill of Wesleyville, Bonavista Bay, is a retired school teacher who has been active in municipal politics, having served as mayor and deputy mayor. He has also performed significant volunteer work with the local fire department, Lions Club, arena committee and minor hockey association.

Keith Walters of Clarenville, is a retired special needs teacher and a former councillor for the Musgravetown Town Council. He has also served his community in the capacity of president, treasurer and secretary of the Kinsmen Club of Can-Bridge.

Don Johnson of Corner Brook, is a sales representative who has served as a councillor with the City of Corner Brook.

Joan Green of St. John�s, is a former executive assistant to the Unity Committee for the Atlantic Task Force to Canadian Unity and executive assistant to the president for the Fish, Food and Allied Workers Union.

Fred Butler of Northern Arm is a retired school principal, currently working as a big game hunting guide. He is a volunteer with the Northern Arm Fire Department and has served on the town council and recreation committee. He has also been involved with the Botwood Minor Hockey Association.

Brenda Genge of Anchor Point is an elementary school teacher who volunteers with the Mount St. Margaret Community Education Centre in Plum Point and the Altar Guild.

Domino Wilkins of Grand Falls-Windsor recently retired from his position as director of education for the Baie Verte Central Connaigre School Board. He is a former superintendent of the Pentecostal Assemblies Board of Education and volunteers with his local church in a number of leadership capacities.
