Department clarifies stay

The Department of Justice clarified today that contempt charges against Leo Puddester and correctional officers, arising out of last years strike, are proceeding in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland.

On January 19, Mr. Puddester and six correctional officers entered a guilty plea to criminal contempt in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland. The matter was then set over to April 5 for sentencing.

Today, a stay was entered in charges that had been laid against Mr.Puddester in Provincial Court because they arise from the same set of circumstances that have already been dealt with in the Supreme Court.
