New Web-based partnership project announced

During the Small Business Week Trade and Business Conference being held in Gander today, Industry, Trade and Technology Minister Sandra Kelly announced a new pilot project with the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation. The project, "Success~Works Regional Partnerships," will enable economic groups in the area to be part of the departments e-business development tool.

The Success~Works Regional Partnerships project will take an integrated approach by connecting all economic development Web sites and business information directly through Success~Works, the departments e-business site for economic development. While it is currently a work in progress, the information will soon be accessible through the departments Web site at: www.success.nfld.net. The partnership approach will first be piloted in the Kittiwake region, and will then be used in regions across the province.

"My department has been working very closely with the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation and other economic development groups in this area for some time to launch this partnership," said Minister Kelly. "By taking a unified approach, we are able to bring all of the pertinent business information on the Kittiwake region under one roof. From a business perspective, this is a tremendous advantage for anyone looking for information on the region."

Once it has all been compiled, the information will be used for, among other things, the U.S. site selectors, which scope out the best places available to expand or establish a business venture for their clients or companies. The Department of Industry, Trade and Technology presents this type of information at International Development Research Council (IDRC) meetings, and the next one will be held in Florida in November. The IDRC is the umbrella organization for corporate real estate executives. Economic and business information on the provinces regions is used to help the site selectors make decisions on where to locate or expand businesses.

"This pilot project provides our region with boundless potential to grow business, promote the Kittiwake Region and accelerate the movement of our economic development goals," said Paul Stride, executive director of the Kittiwake Economic Development Corporation. "This project will allow all stakeholders in this region our business community, our municipalities, our economic development agencies to row in unison and present a united front to the world marketplace."

The Success~Works Regional Partnerships project relies on the participation of members, including economic development groups and individual businesses, to input and update their information in the system. Information on local businesses, infrastructure, educational resources, among other things, will be available in the coming months.
