NOTE TO EDITORS: Photo Opportunity

On Thursday, July 27, Sandra C. Kelly, Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology, will present cheques to students from across the province who will be participating in the Junior Team Canada mission to Malaysia and the Philippines from August 6-22. Each student will receive a cheque for $1,000, which will go towards the $3,000 they need to participate in the mission.

Eight students will be participating from Newfoundland and Labrador, five will be present for tomorrow�s ceremony. They are representing various areas of the province, including Marystown, Labrador, St. John�s, Aquaforte, St. Teresa�s, Corner Brook and Grand Falls-Windsor.

In total, 44 students from across Canada will be participating in Global Vision�s Junior Team Canada Economic Trade Mission to Southeast Asia for 2000. The students will start with a one week training session in Ottawa, followed by a two-and-a-half week mission to Malaysia and the Philippines. During the mission, students will be meeting with industry and government leaders to look for business opportunities for various Canadian companies. Junior Team Canada participants from Atlantic Canada also participated in the Team Canada Atlantic trade mission to New England in May.

 

Founded in 1991, Global Vision is a not-for-profit organization that provides young people with practical leadership and business experience.

While visiting the Department of Industry, Trade and Technology, a number of students will also receive training on Success~Works, the department�s online business information system, which will enable them to better promote Newfoundland and Labrador�s business advantages.

Minister Kelly and the students will be available for a photo opportunity at 2:00 p.m. in the Department of Industry, Trade and Technology, 4th Floor, West Block, Confederation Building.
