Companies heading to Oceanology International 2000

Next week, a delegation of 21 companies and other organizations from Atlantic Canada will head to Brighton, United Kingdom for Oceanology International 2000, which is being held from March 7-10.

Oceanology International 2000 is the largest international marine science and ocean technology event of its kind. It includes both an exhibition and conference, and more than 6,000 visitors from over 60 countries are expected to attend the event. It will also have approximately 600 exhibitors, a record number in the event�s more than 30 year history. The exhibitors attending are from 21 different countries.

"Oceanology International 2000 represents an opportunity for our local businesses and organizations to access a large number of world leaders in the marine technology sector, all under one roof," said Sandra Kelly, Newfoundland and Labrador�s Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology. "This is a chance for our companies to network, to highlight their innovative technologies and to increase their international presence at a major event."

For the first time ever, the event will include a 1,200 square foot Atlantic pavilion, which is being funded through the Canada/Atlantic Provinces COOPERATION Agreement on International Business Development (IBDA). IBDA partners include the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), Industry Canada, the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and the four Atlantic provinces.

The conference aspect will feature an opening address from Michael Meacher, Minister for the Environment in the United Kingdom, in addition to speakers from Canada, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom and the European Union. The exhibition will include various displays of equipment, systems, technologies and scientific research services for application worldwide. A number of complementary events will be held by various groups during Oceanology International 2000.
