March 13-17 Social Work week

Roger Grimes, Minister of Health and Community Services, today proclaimed March 13-17, 2000 as Social Work week in Newfoundland and Labrador. This year's theme is "Social Workers: Contributing to a Community of Peace".

"The provincial government, through its line departments and health and community services boards, is the largest employer of professional social workers in this province," said Minister Grimes. "Today I am pleased to recognize the work of these individuals and thank them for their role in helping families in this province, and the community at large, live harmoniously. 'Contributing to a community of peace' is something we all strive for."

This year's social work week theme is in keeping with the United Nations declaration of the Year 2000 as International Year to Promote a Culture of Peace.
