Puget�s Sound Agricultural Society Limited

The Insurance and Pensions Division of the Department of Government Services and Lands is advising consumers that Puget�s Sound Agricultural Society Limited is not licensed to sell automobile insurance in Newfoundland and Labrador. Consumers who may have a financial responsibility card issued by this company should be aware that it is not valid proof of insurance coverage, which means a consumer could be charged under the Highway Traffic Act with driving without insurance on their vehicle.

Puget�s Sound Agricultural Society Ltd. is a California based company which offers something called a "Vehicle Financial Responsibility Program" which it claims is "a low-cost alternative to other plans, such as commercially available insurance" according to its Web site.

Consumers are advised that when purchasing insurance, whether through the Internet, mail, phone or in person, they should ask if the insurance company and agent/broker are licensed to do business in Newfoundland and Labrador. Consumers can contact the Insurance and Pensions Division at (709) 729-2595 to check whether a particular company or agent/broker has a licence.
