Caribou Extension Zones open

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, has announced the Bay of Islands and Big River Caribou Extension Zones in Labrador are open effective immediately.

"There have been numerous reports of caribou in the area," said Minister Aylward. "This is supported by the general movement patterns of collared animals. This warrants the opening of these caribou extension zones for hunting purposes."

Wildlife officials will continue to monitor movements of the caribou. Additional zones are being monitored and will be opened or closed depending on the presence of the caribou herd.
