Special investigation leads to charges under Wildlife Act

Officials with the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods have conducted a special investigation into alleged violations of the Wildlife Act relating to trafficking in big game and taking of big game animals in the River of Ponds area on the Northern Peninsula. The 12 month investigation, recently resulted in a search being conducted at a business in River of Ponds where a quantity of meat and meat processing equipment was seized.

To date, 33 charges under the Wildlife Act and Regulations and one charge under the Migratory Bird Convention Act, against seven individuals and one company have been laid. These individuals are scheduled to make a first appearance in Provincial Court at Port aux Choix on November 1, 2000.
