Law Enforcement Torch Run AGM to be held in Gander

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods is pleased that the Annual General Meeting of the Law Enforcement Torch Run will take place in Gander, Newfoundland.

The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods has taken the lead in this initiative. This year, Robert Whitten, Director with Legislation and Compliance for Inland Fish and Wildlife, has been the director of the Provincial Committee.

Agencies included in the Law Enforcement Torch Run are; Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, Sheriff�s Office, Her Majesty�s Penitentiary, Military Police and Highway Enforcement.

The role of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is twofold; to raise awareness of the Special Olympics and to raise funds for support of the athletes for Special Olympics provincially, nationally and internationally.

"I extend my congratulations to all enforcement agencies who take part in this massive collaborative effort each year," Minister Aylward stated. "It is good to see such a fine group of individuals working closely together for the benefit of a cause as worthy as the Special Olympics.
