Individuals plead guilty to Forestry and Wildlife Act violations

A Hare Bay, Bonavista Bay man pleaded guilty to two violations of the provincial Forestry Act on May 25 in Gander Provincial Court. Rene Brown, 27, operated a sawmill and purchased sawlogs without a licence. Mr. Brown received a $500 fine on each violation and was placed on probation for one year.

Another investigation, this one completed by the Gambo office of the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, resulted in a man pleading guilty to three big game violations under the provincial Wildlife Act on June 6 in Wesleyville Provincial Court. Todd Rogers, 29 of Wareham, Bonavista Bay was charged with killing the wrong sex animal on a big game moose licence, possessing big game without tags affixed, and spoilage of big game meat. Mr. Rogers was fined $1,000 for each of the first two charges and $200 on the third. He was also prohibited from holding a big game licence for five years. An all-terrain vehicle, firearm, and big game meat was forfeited to the Crown.
