Minister announces closing of the orma north and orma south caribou hunting zones - Labrador.

Kevin Aylward, Minister Responsible for Wildlife, informs hunters effective midnight, April 1, 2000 the Orma North and Orma South caribou hunting zones in Central Labrador will be closed to caribou hunting.

"It is necessary to close these zones as the George River caribou herd have moved out of the area," said Minister Aylward. "A three day notice is provided to give hunters the opportunity of advanced notice to the closure."

Wildlife Division staff will continue to monitor the movements of the George River caribou herd throughout their late winter migrations and further areas may close pending these movements.
