Government committed to Outdoor Resources

Forest Resources and Agrifoods Minister Kevin Aylward stated today: "In July of 1999 the document, Our Smiling Land was developed as a result of the Outdoor Resources Consultation process. The department is acting on several commitments arising out of those consultations."

The Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods will develop a Web site related to outdoor recreational and hunting issues, include an outdoor rights section in the annual hunting guide, and review existing public awareness programs.

Another commitment made in Our Smiling Land was an evaluation of our enforcement practices with the intent of increasing the effectiveness of enforcement efforts. In the 2000 budget the department has increased the budget by $450,000 for enforcement, administration of the big game management plan, and wildlife ecosystem management planning.
