Minister annouces closing of Lac Virot Caribou Hunting Zone - Labrador

Kevin Aylward, minister responsible for wildlife, wishes to inform hunters that effective January 17, 2000 the Lac Virot Caribou Hunting Zone in Western Labrador will be closed to caribou hunting. The George River Caribou Herd have moved out of this zone and thus the necessity to close the area.

"A three day notice is provided to give hunters the opportunity of advanced notice to the closure," said the minister.

Wildlife Division staff will continue to monitor the movements of the George River Caribou Herd through their winter migrations.
