Minister comments on illegal strike

Anna Thistle, President of Treasury Board, today commented on the illegal strike by laboratory and x-ray employees.

"This is an illegal strike. We understand an injunction is being sought by the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Boards Association on behalf of the employers, " the minister said.

"We have already set a meeting for Monday, October 23, with NAPE which represents the laboratory and x-ray bargaining unit. We are still prepared to meet with them to discuss their concerns but will only do so if they are no longer participating in this illegal activity," she said.

The minister also said that government has already started contract negotiations with this group which is the legitimate forum for such discussions.
