Minister comments on Employment Insurance

Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Walter Noel says comments by Prime Minister Chretien to roll back reductions in Employment Insurance benefits are encouraging.

"We�ve been working for change for months. People on EI, employed in seasonal industries have been negatively affected, particularly as a result of intensity and divisor provisions. I, and other members of our caucus, have met and communicated with Human Resources and Development Minister Jane Stewart numerous times to get changes our people need. I welcome Prime Minister Chretien�s apparent desire to make the necessary changes as soon as possible to provide support for people working in seasonal industries."
