The committee organizing the St. Johns Canada Day celebrations taking place at Confederation Hill on July 1 has finalized plans for the event.

Walter Noel, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs hosted a press conference today, outlining what will take place. He was joined by Tina Fagan, president of the Canada Day Committee for Newfoundland and Labrador; Shawn Skinner, chair of the St. Johns Celebrate Canada Day Committee; and James Kennedy, District Commander of the Royal Canadian Legion.

"Everyone is invited to join in the festivities of the first Canada Day of the 21 century with Lieutenant Governor House, Premier Brian Tobin and Mayor Andy Wells on Confederation Hill as we celebrate Canadas birthday," Minister Noel said.

"This is the second year the celebrations have been held on Confederation Hill and we are anticipating a fun filled day for people of all ages. Added to this years events is the unveiling of the Coat of Arms Lookout in partnership with the Johnson Family Foundation, and a Wreath Laying ceremony marking the 84th anniversary of Beaumont Hamel. Both events will be taking place on Confederation Hill at 11:30 a.m."

Minister Noel continued, "For several months now representatives of all levels of government have shared their time and expertise to create a day in which all people can celebrate their heritage and pride in our great country. It has been a pleasure working with all of them. We hope many families will visit Confederation Hill to participate in the celebrations and enjoy the entertainment on Saturday."

The committee noted that, in case of inclement weather on Canada Day, all activities will go ahead at various locations within Confederation Building.
