Provincial government recognizing Public Service Week

President of Treasury Board Anna Thistle is pleased to announce the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is celebrating June 11-17, 2000 as Public Service Week.

"This special week provides an opportunity to recognize the thousands of men and women who make a valuable contribution in delivering government services and programs all across the province," said Minister Thistle.

"The public service is integral to the management of our resources and to the social and economic stability of our province," the minister said.

Minister Thistle also noted the importance of the theme for the week, Working Together for the People of Newfoundland and Labrador.

"The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador encourages a team approach for the effective delivery of programs and services to the citizens of this province," said Minister Thistle. "We are also committed to having a public service that is professional, competent and non-partisan."

During the week, special events will take place in various parts of the province to recognize the work of public service employees and to highlight the programs and services they are responsible for delivering on a day-to-day basis.

"On behalf of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, I want to acknowledge all the men and women who have made their career choice in the public service," said Minister Thistle. "I thank you for the integral part you all play in the service to the people of this province."
