Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Hawke Hills Wind Power Project (Four Mile Pond)
Proponent: CHI Hydroelectric Company Inc.

The proponent plans to construct and operate a 15 MW wind power project at Four Mile Pond, Hawke Hills approximately six kilometres south of the Town of Holyrood, as per Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro's request for proposals. The proposed project is for 25 individual wind turbine generators. The wind turbines are horizontal axis, three bladed wind energy converters with a maximum hub height of 60 metres and rotor diameter of between 40 and 50 metres. The undertaking was registered on December 6, 2000; public comments are due on January 10, 2001; and the minister's decision is due on January 20, 2001.

Old Perlican to Grates Cove Wind Power Project
Proponent: CHI Hydroelectric Company Inc.

The proponent plans to construct and operate a 15 MW wind power project near Old Perlican and within the triangle formed by the towns of Grates Cove and Bay de Verde, as per Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro's request for proposals. The proposed project is for 25 individual wind turbine generators. The wind turbines are horizontal axis, three bladed wind energy converters with a maximum hub height of 60 metres and rotor diameter of between 40 and 50 metres. The undertaking was registered on December 6, 2000; public comments are due on January 10, 2001; and the minister's decision is due on January 20, 2001.

GUIDELINES FOR THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT (EIS):

Duck Pond (Millertown Area) Copper-Zinc Mine
Proponent: Thundermin Resources Inc./Queenston Mining Inc.

The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement for the Duck Pond (Millertown Area) Copper-Zinc Mine. Copies of the guidelines may be obtained from Pat Marrie, chair of the Environmental Assessment Committee at the address below, by email pmarrie@mail.gov.nf.ca, or at the web site listed below.
