Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Terrenceville to Bay L'Argent Fibre Optic Transmission Line
Proponent: Newfoundland Power Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct an 11 kilometre aerial fibre optic transmission line from Terrenceville to Bay L'Argent (Bottom Brook area). The rational for the proposed fibre optic cable is to link Terrenceville to the Newtel Communications fibre optic network via Bay L'Argent to provide digital phone facilities. The undertaking was registered on October 18, 2000; public comments are due on November 22, 2000; and the minister's decision is due on December 2, 2000.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has released the following projects from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

Gander Waste Disposal / Landfill Site Expansion
Proponent: Town of Gander

Forest Management District 1 Amendment (Southern Shore Areas)
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods
