NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED: Marble Mountain to Deer Lake Fibre Optic
Transmission Line The proponent proposes to construct a 49 kilometre aerial fibre optic transmission line from Marble Mountain to Deer Lake. The fibre optic cable will be placed on a new pole line adjacent to Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro's transmission line TL248. The fibre optic cable will be located within the exiting right-of-way throughout most of the route. The rationale for the project is to complete a second separate high density route between Corner Brook and Deer Lake to eliminate the possibility of a nodal failure in a single point failure on the current route. The undertaking was registered on October 16, 2000; public comments are due on November 20, 2000; and the minister's decision is due on November 30, 2000. ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED Colliers 18 Hole Golf Course On August 18, 2000 the minister required that an Environmental Preview Report be completed for the proposed Colliers 18 hole golf course to address environmental issues related to the undertaking. Therefore, the minister has appointed an Environmental Assessment Committee (EAC) pursuant of the Environmental Assessment Act. The committee has representation from the Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods and Department of Environment and Labour. The EAC will develop the guidelines which will highlight the environmental issues to be addressed in the EPR. Once approved by the minister, the guidelines will be made available to the public for information. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known. Further information may be obtained by contacting the director of Environmental Assessment at (709) 729-2562 or toll-free: 1-800-563-6181 or by mail to: Director, Environmental Assessment
