Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Abitibi-Consolidated Forest Management District 13 (St. George's Area) Amendment
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.

The proponent proposes to harvest approximately 58,000 cubic metres of mature and over mature timber in the Padille Pond area and construct approximately 13.75 kilometres of class "C" forest access roads. Construction of the roads is required to access the timber and to transport the wood from the blocks to the Stephenville Plant. No harvesting will take place inside the Pine Marten Wildlife Areas. The undertaking was registered on August 31, 2000. Public comments are due on October 5, 2000 and the minister's decision is due on October 15, 2000.

The minister has released the following project from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

Port au Choix to Point Riche Transmission Line Upgrade
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
