Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Long Harbour Quarry (Concrete Aggregate) Plant
Proponent: Eastern Technical Services Limited

The proponent plans to construct a quarry operation for concrete aggregate at Long Harbour, Placentia Bay to the south of the former ERCO plant. The proposed operation will consist of a crushing plant, crushing/stockpile lay down area covering 57 hectares, and conveyor system to transport material to the existing dock at Long Harbour. Initial production is estimated to be approximately 2,000,000 tons per year with expansion capability to approximately 6,000,000 tons per year. The undertaking was registered on July 31, 2000; public comments are due on September 2, 2000; and the minister's decision is due on September 14, 2000.
