NLIS 2 July 26, 2000 (Environment and Labour) Environmental Assessment Bulletin Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED: Crown Land Five Year Forest Management Plan
District 9 (Springdale) The proponent has submitted the five year forest operating plan for Crown Land in District 9 (Springdale Management District). The plan covers the operating period from September 2000 to March 2005. The plan describes past forestry activities, the allocation of wood supply and harvesting, silviculture activities, road construction, habitat protection and environmental protection and land use. The undertaking was registered on July 24, 2000. Public comments are due on August 25, 2000 and the minister's decision is due on September 7, 2000. UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT: The minister has released the following project from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act: 2000 Sawfly Spray Program (Western &
Central Newfoundland) This project has been released for the use of NPV Virus only (nuclear polyhedrosis virus or NeabNPV is a naturally occurring balsam fir sawfly virus). The spray program for the naturally occurring virus has also been reduced in size and will be limited to 500 hectares in area. The proponent has withdrawn the use of Neemix for the 2000 Sawfly spray program. The proponent is required to obtain all necessary permits and approvals from municipal, provincial and federal authorities prior to spraying.
