Corduroy Brook Association to clean up with Waste Management Trust Fund grant

Oliver Langdon, Minister of Environment and Labour, and Anna Thistle, MHA - Grand Falls-Buchans and President of Treasury Board, are pleased to announce approval of a grant in the amount of $11,500 under the Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund to the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association.

The Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association will use the funding to help cover the cost of an aggressive clean-up of sections of the Corduroy Brook and will move its efforts outside of the immediate area of the brook to several areas that are in bad shape. The project will employ three people for a period of 10 weeks.

"I want to congratulate the volunteers of the Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association for their continued commitment to clean up the Corduroy Brook and restore it to its natural state," said Minister Thistle. "These efforts improve the environment and enhance the area for both local residents and visitors."

Minister Thistle presented the first installment of the grant, $5,750, to the association today at the Corduroy Brook Trail.

"We are proud to once again partner with the provincial government in our efforts to beautify the Corduroy Brook," said Barry Manuel, executive director, Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association.

The Corduroy Brook Enhancement Association was formed in 1994 and consists of a volunteer group of individuals and community organizations committed to the preservation and improvement of the Corduroy Brook and its environs.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Waste Management Trust Fund is administered by the Multi-Materials Stewardship Board and provides partial funding for waste management and environmental initiatives.
