Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Abitibi Forestry Management District 12 Amendment (Harbour Round Pond)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.

The proponent proposes an amendment to the five year operating plan for Forestry Management District 12 in the Harbour Round Pond area, near Red Indian Lake. The plan amendment is for the harvesting of 50,000 cubic metres of timber over a 524 hectare area and the construction of 7.9 kilometres of access roads. The rational for this amendment is it is to serve as an alternate wood supply to timber on the north side of Red Indian Lake which is scheduled to be harvested should the replacement bridge across Star Brook not be completed in time to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fibre to the Stephenville Mill between September-December 2000. The undertaking was registered on July 19, 2000; public comments are due on August 19, 2000; and the minister's decision is due on September 2, 2000.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has released the following project from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

Charlottetown Water System Upgrade (Pipeline and Dam)
Proponent: Town of Charlottetown
