Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has released the following projects from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

2000 Hemlock Looper Spray Program
Proponent: Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods

This project has been released for the use of B.t.k. only. The proponent has withdrawn the use of Mimic for the 2000 Hemlock Looper spray program. The proponent is required to obtain all necessary permits and approvals from municipal, provincial and federal authorities. A Pesticide Operator Licence is required prior to the implementation of this program in accordance with the Pesticides Control Act administered by the Department of Environment and Labour. This licence will outline the operational terms and conditions for the operation of a spray program such as buffer zones, contingency plans and public notification programs. Approval will also be required from the Water Resources Management Division, Department of Environment and Labour in Protected Water Supply Areas.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
