Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Harbour Breton Blue Mussel (Fish) Processing Plant
Proponent: ConAqua Limited

The proponent plans to construct a blue mussel processing plant in Harbour Breton, on the south side of the harbour. The plant will be approximately 750 sq. meters (8,000 sq. feet) in size and will consist of a steel frame building that will accommodate equipment to hold, declump, grade, debyss, weigh, package, cook, freeze, and store cultured mussels processed and frozen in a shell-on state. The facility will engage in the production of raw material grown and available from mussel aquaculture sites within the Connaigre region of the province. The undertaking was registered on June 28, 2000. Public comments are due on July 30, 2000 and the minister's decision is due on August 12, 2000.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has released the following projects from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

Crabbe's River Agricultural Farm (Vegetables, Hay)
Proponent: Hulan's Farm

Makinson's Sand Quarry (Pit)
Proponent: Ms. Anita Makinson

Abitibi Forestry Mgt District 10 Amendment (Northern Arm Lake)
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.
