ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT SUBMITTED:

Amendment to Five Year Operating Plan (1997-2001) for the Main River-Sheffield Lake Areas Forest Management District 16
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd.

Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd. has submitted an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for an amendment to the Five Year Plan for Forest Management District 16 to harvest timber in the Main River and Sheffield Lake area. The purpose of the report is to identify and address key environmental issues associated with the project and to address deficiencies in the original registration document. Following public and government review, the minister will decide if the report is satisfactory. If satisfactory, he will decide whether or not an Environmental Impact Statement is required.

The public may review the EPR and submit comments to the minister by May 3. All submissions received on or before this date will be considered before a final decision is made. For copies of the EPR or if you have questions about the assessment process, contact the chair of the Environmental Assessment Committee, Wayne Tucker, at (709) 729-1091 or e-mail wtucker@mail.gov.nf.ca.

A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment and Labour.
