Environmental Assessment Bulletin

Environment and Labour Minister Oliver Langdon has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies may be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date shown for each item.

NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Abitibi Forestry Mgmt District 10 Amendment - New Bay Pond
Proponent: Abitibi-Consolidated Inc.

The proponent proposes an amendment to the five year operating plan for Forestry Management District 10 in the New Bay Pond Area, near Northern Arm Brook in Central Newfoundland. The plan amendment proposes the harvesting of 6,500 cubic metres of timber over a 68 hectare area. The undertaking was registered on March 20, 2000; public comments are due on April 26, 2000; and the minister's decision is due on May 4, 2000.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PLAN RECEIVED

Bifurcation Road, St. John's Outer Ring Road to Kenmount Road
Proponent: Department of Works, Services and Transportation

The Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) for construction of the Bifurcation Road, St. John's Outer Ring Road to Kenmount Road, a distance of 2.3 kilometres, has been received. For further information on this plan you may contact John Eason at (709) 729-5706 or e-mail at jeason@mail.gov.nf.ca.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED FROM ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT:

The minister has released the following project from environmental assessment as per requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act:

Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper
