Minister proclaims National Students Against Impaired Driving Day

Acting Education Minister Beaton Tulk has signed a proclamation declaring October 17 as National Students Against Impaired Driving Day.

"Every year too many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians lose their lives in car accidents involving impaired drivers," Minister Tulk explained. "Students have taken on a vital issue. It is important to recognize the stand they are taking and the efforts they are making to educate others about the perils of drinking and driving."

Ten schools in Newfoundland and Labrador are taking part in National Students Against Impaired Driving Day this year. They include Exploits Valley High in Grand Falls-Windsor, Jane Collins

Academy in Hare Bay, Menihek High School in Labrador City, H.L. Strong Academy on Little Bay Island, J.M.Olds Collegiate in Twillingate, Roncalli Central High in Avondale, Holy Spirit High School in Manuels and Bishops College, Booth Memorial and Gonzaga High Schools in St. John�s. All schools will be sponsoring activities and events to make students aware of the consequences of impaired driving.
