Education Week activity

Judy Foote, Minister of Education, is encouraging members of the House of Assembly and others to actively participate in Education Week (March 5-11) this year.

In keeping with this years Education Week theme "Get Together! Give Together!", getting together with students in schools and giving them the gift of reading is an ideal way to mark Education Week.

On Friday, March 10, Minister Foote will be reading to two classes of Grade 7 students at St. Thomas of Villa Nova School in Manuels.

"Literacy is a priority for government," said Minister Foote. "This is evidenced by our recent announcement of a $1 million investment in books for the provinces libraries.

"Fostering a love of reading is one of the most important things that we can do for our children. It enhances their childhood, and contributes to a love of learning that will last for the rest of their lives.

"I encourage everybody to join me in giving back to our communities through sharing the gift of reading," said the minister.
