Report of Ministerial Panel delayed

"The deadline for the report from the Ministerial Panel on the Delivery of Education in the Cassroom has been extended a few weeks. We knew from the outset that the co-chairs Dr. Ron Sparkes and Dr. Len Williams were working to a very tight deadline. As it turned out, the consultation process ran longer than expected. The panel received tremendous feedback from educators, parents, interest groups and other stakeholders which is being incorporated into their recommendations.

"The panels recommendations will be included in the 2000/2001 budget discussions. I have received a preliminary report on those issues that will affect our budget planning and Dr. Sparkes and Dr. Williams will submit their final report to me in a few weeks," said Judy Foote, Minister of Education.

The report from the ministerial panel was to be submitted to the Minister of Education by February 29, and subsequent to her review, was to be approved by cabinet prior to its release to the public. It is now expected that Minister Foote will receive the final report late March.
