Economic development ministers to meet

Economic development ministers from five jurisdictions along the North Atlantic rim will meet at Strawberry Hill Resort, near Marble Mountain on the province�s west coast, on Monday, September 25.

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Development and Rural Renewal for Newfoundland and Labrador, will chair the meeting.

"This is an initial step in encouraging greater cooperation among our jurisdictions on issues of economic development," Mr. Tulk said.

Others who will attend are Valgerdur Sverrisdottir, Minister of Industry and Commerce for Iceland; Noel Davern T.D., Minister of State, Agriculture, Food and Rural Renewal, Ireland; Hogni Hoydal, Deputy Prime Minister, Faroe Islands; and Chester Gillan, MLA , representing the minister for Prince Edward Island.

Organized by the Department of Development and Rural Renewal, in conjunction with Intergovernmental Affairs, this meeting will provide an opportunity for the ministers to discuss the similarities and challenges of economic development, as well as explore potential collaborative efforts in economic development.
