Contract awarded for Carmelite House

Anna Thistle, MHA - Grand Falls - Buchans and Roger Grimes, MHA - Exploits announced on behalf of Works, Services and Transportation Minister Rick Woodford that a $6 million contract been awarded to Bluebird Investments of Grand Falls-Windsor. Work is for the building packages and site finishes on the Carmelite House project. The Carmelite project, originally announced by Thistle and Grimes this past August at a ground breaking ceremony, is for the construction of a new 60 bed seniors facility in Grand Falls-Windsor.

"I am pleased to see that work is progressing so quickly on the facility," said Thistle. "This contract represents the single biggest piece of work on the project and involves the building package and site finishes. As 1999 and the International Year of Older Persons, draws to a close, it is most fitting that we are here today announcing this major contract."

Grimes said that he too is pleased with the progress of the construction. "Work on the site has been active since last August and we should start to see the structure taking shape soon."

Bluebird is expected to begin work on the site early in the new year and the project is scheduled to be completed as soon as possible.
