Contracts awarded for grading projects in Labrador

Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, Ernie McLean, Minister Responsible for Labrador, and Yvonne Jones, MHA - Cartwright-L'Anse Au Clair, today announced the awarding of three contracts with a total value of almost $23 million.

RDN Construction Ltd. of St. John's was awarded a $6,773,091.75 contract for grading Paradise River towards Charlottetown.

A contract valued at $9,579,897.90 has been awarded to Johnson's Construction Ltd. of Pasadena. Work on this contract will include grading Lodge Bay to St. Lewis River.

SM Construction Ltd. of Stephenville Crossing was awarded a $6,636,132.50 contract for grading R510, Lodge Bay towards Red Bay. Contract prices include HST.

"The highway construction in Labrador is providing economic benefits and jobs to the local region," said Ms. Jones. "People are waiting in anticipation for the much needed development."

"This funding will benefit several towns in the Labrador region and will substantially improve the condition of the existing road network," said Mr. McLean. Mr. McLean also said that work on the three projects will commence immediately and be completed by October 31, 2000.
