Rick Woodford, Minister of Works, Services and Transportation, today announced that a contract in the amount of $2,456,271 has been awarded to McNamara Construction Co. of St. John's for the upgrading and paving of 507.4 km to 520.6 km on the TCH, R#1, South Brook Intersection to Springdale Intersection for a total of 13.2 kilometres.

Woodford said this work under the Roads for Rails Agreement will commence as soon as weather permits and should be completed by September 30, 1999. "The completion of this project will certainly improve overall transportation across the island."
