NLBA Elite Eight rankings

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association (NLBA) has released the inaugural rankings for the Elite Eight Tournament to be held on February 18 -20, 2000. The event is scheduled for Memorial University and Holy Heart of Mary in St. John's. The selection committee consisting of George Power, Terry Burton, Bill Hurley and Bill Murphy have gathered scores of invitational tournaments, exhibition games and league play for the past six weeks. Over 140 game results have been forwarded to the provincial office to assist with the rankings formulated below. George Power, chair of the Elite Eight program is ecstatic with the support pouring in from across the island. Results from tournaments held prior to December 15 have been included for the rankings below. The committee is sill waiting on results from 1-2 events that have been held and they are expected to arrive in the next day or so. Below are the rankings for the results currently submitted to our office:

Female:

1. St. Kevin's
2. Beaconsfield
3. Stella Maris
4. Fatima Academy
5. Roncalli High
6. Prince of Wales
7. Holy Heart of Mary
8. Herdman Collegiate

Male:

1. Holy Heart of Mary
2. O'donel High
3. Fatima Academy
4. Mount Pearl Senior High
5. Regina High
6. Stella Maris
7. Prince of Wales
8. St. Catherine's Academy

 

The selection committee are urging all tournament hosts to fax the results to the provincial office immediately upon conclusion of the event. Rankings will be updated and made public during the first week of January.
