The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Angela King, President of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador today announced the appointment of Margie Keough of St. John's and Wayne Simon of Stephenville as member of the Board of Governors of the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame. John McGrath, Chair of the Sports Hall of Fame also announced the new appointment of Joe Wadden of Mount Pearl and Dave Spurrell of St. John's to the selection committee (all to three year terms).

Wayne Simon is a corrections officer who resides in Stephenville. He has been president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Tae Kwon Do Association since 1981. He is a director of the Canadian W.T.F. Tae Kwon Do Association. In 1988 he became a qualified swimming instructor and worked as a life guard for the inmates at the West Coast Correction Centre. In 1998 he was elected western director of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador.

Margie Keough is a staffing supervisor of Collection and Delivery at Canada Post. In 1978 she graduated from MUN with a degree in physical education. She represented MUN at AUAA in basketball, volleyball and field hockey. She represented the province in national competition for softball (eight times), basketball (three times), and volleyball (three times). She is a member of both the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame and St. John's Softball Hall of Fame, and is a former news and sports reporter for the Daily News. At present she is the ladies captain Admirals Green/Capital Hill Golf Association.

Joe Wadden is an educator and had an outstanding career in baseball and basketball with Holy Cross and Memorial University and had distinguished himself as a coach. He is now serving as president of Baseball Newfoundland.

Dave Spurrell is president and owner of Peter Pan Sales Limited and had a distinguished career as a player and coach with St. Bon's soccer teams in the 1950s and 1960s. He was a goal tender with the Blue and Gold Hockey Team in that era.
