The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland and Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

Island High School 3A Girls Volleyball Championships, Springdale

The first of the high school athletic federation's volleyball championships will be played this coming weekend as Indian River High School of Springdale hosts the 3A Island Girls Volleyball Championships. The tournament will be run in a round robin format and will see competition from the following teams: Indian River High, Marystown Central High, Lester Pearson Memorial (Wesleyville), Botwood Collegiate, Pasadena Academy and St. James Regional High (Port aux Basques).

Games get under way Friday at 1 p.m., six matches are scheduled for Friday along with the opening ceremonies. All teams will play their remaining three games on Saturday culminating in the semi-final and championship games. The top team after the round robin will get a bye into the final with the second and third place teams playing off to advance to the championship game.

The new CVA rules will be in effect for all high school play this season. All games will be played rally point to 25 points. Matches are the best two out of three.

The winning team from this island tournament wins not only the championship banner, but also the right to travel to Wabush, Labrador for the Provincial Girls 3A Championships on December 10 and 11.
