The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador: Beresford Ltd. Volleyfest 99 set for this weekend The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association is pleased to announce that the Beresford Ltd. - Volleyfest 99 will be played in the St. John's/Mount Pearl area this weekend October 29 and 30. This is the fifth year for the event. There will be seven divisional titles decided; Senior High A and B boys, Senior High A, B and C girls and Junior High boys and girls. There are 96 teams registered for the tournament with 247 matches of volleyball to be played during the weekend. Jeff Saunders, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association, said: "We were expecting approximately 80 teams for this year's event, with 97 teams entering it has given the association a tremendous challenge to organize the event. It definitely however tells us that volleyball is continuing to grow in participation throughout the province as we have teams representing most parts of the island." The venues being used for the event are Memorial University, Booth Memorial, MacDonald Drive Junior High, Bishop's College, Torbay Recreation Centre, Beaconsfield Jr. and Senior High, College of the North Atlantic, Prince of Wales, O'Donel High School, Mount Pearl Senior High, Mount Pearl Intermediate, Marine Institute and Holy Heart. The event will begin at most facilities at approximately 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. on Friday and play will be continued on Saturday with playoffs scheduled at various facilities for late Saturday afternoon. All awards will be presented at Booth Memorial gymnasium at approximately 7 p.m. on Saturday. All teams are expected to be in attendance.
