The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

The Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Assiciation has sent six provincial elite volleyball teams to compete in two national tournaments. This past weekend, 72 athletes competed in the Midget Elite Eastern Canadian Championships in Moncton, New Bruswick. The teams consist of two midget girls teams, two midget boys teams, one midget +1 girls team and one midget +1 boys team. This is the first leg of a two week tour for these teams. Their next stop will be at the Quebec Plus Tournament in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Karen Murphy, the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association elite development chair said: "The NLVA is extremely pleased with these results. This is very early in the Canada Games 2001 cycle to get such positive results in Eastern Canada."
