The following is being distributed at the request of Sport Newfoundland and Labrador:

Provincial midget hoop teams

The Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association will be sending two teams to the 1999 Eastern Canadian Midget (under 15) Boys and Girls Championships this weekend, July 23-25. The event will be held in Saint John, New Brunswick at St. Mulachy's High School. The tournament will commence at 4 p.m. Friday and will conclude at 5 p.m. on Sunday. All athletes will depart on Thursday and will return on Monday, July 26.

Members of the midget girls team include: Esther Mooney of St. Bride's; Karla Hartery, Karen Hartery, Melissa Molloy and Karyn Power of Trepassey; Karolyn Sullivan of Calvert; Julie Maher of Ferryland; Danielle Williams of Bay Bulls; Kate Parsons and Sheena Fleming of Goulds; Amy Brazil and Tara Croft of Mount Pearl; Lyndsay Power and Jessica Wade of St. John's; and Pam Flynn of Kilbride. The head coach of the team is Amy O'Reilly and the assistant coach is Mark Nash.

Members of the midget boys team include: Kevin Oram of Corner Brook; George Mammon of Grand Falls-Windsor; Evan Constantine of Dunville; Justin Halleran of Trepassey; Geoff Power of Admiral's Beach; Colin Baird of Mount Carmel; Andrew Boland, Geoff Sweeney, Stephen Stead, and Brad Williams of Mount Pearl; Ian Hennebury, Joel Koops, Yassir El-Tahan and Patrick Snow of St. John's; and Darcy Johnson of Renews. The head coach for the team is Dave Constantine while Martin Cull and Pam Constantine will handle the assistant coaches duties.
