The following is being distributed at the request of the Newfoundland Labrador High School Athletic Federation:

High school hockey champions to be crowned

The High School Athletic Federation will crown two provincial high school hockey champions this coming weekend.

The eight teams in the 4A tournament will be vying for the historic Boyle Cup. St. Kevin's High School in Goulds is the host of the event. Participating teams include Holy Heart of Mary (St. John's), Gander Collegiate, Exploits Valley High (Grand Falls-Windsor) and Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista) in Division 1. Playing off in Division 2 will be the host school, Stephenville High, Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts) and Mount Pearl Senior High. Games will be played at the Goulds Arena starting at 11 a.m., Thursday, with round robing games continuing through Friday evening. The semi-final games will go at 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the championship game at 7 p.m.

Indian River High School in Springdale is the host of the 3A provincial high school championships. Eight teams from around the province are also entered in this event. The host school will compete in Division 1 against Holy Trinity Central High (Norman's Cove), Harriot Curtis Collegiate (St. Anthony) and Dorset Collegiate (Pilley's Island). Competition in Division 2 will feature Baie Verte High School, Buchans Central High, Baltimore High (Ferryland) and Lester B. Pearson (Wesleyville). Games get under way 2 p.m. Thursday and continue through 6 p.m., Saturday with the championship game scheduled for 8 p.m.

The high school athletic federation is proud to have Keyin Technical College and School Milk Foundation/Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador as sponsors of the federation and these provincial tournaments.
