Finalists announced for annual sports awards

Rosalind Pound, chairperson of the Awards Program, would like to announce the names of the finalists for the 1998 Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Annual Awards.

The finalists for the Elizabeth Swan Memorial Plaque for Senior Female Athlete of the Year are: Michelle Critch of karate, Cheryl Oldford of volleyball, and Isabelle Turcotte-Baird of triathlon.

The finalists for the Ferd Hayward Memorial Plaque for the Senior Male Athlete of the Year are: Peter Benoite of basketball, Dale Pike of rugby and Sean Whitten of softball.

The finalists for the Brookfield Dairy Group Provincial Junior Female Athlete of the Year are: Sarah Drake of soccer, Katie Williams of golf and Beverly Young of weightlifting.

The finalists for the Brookfield Dairy Group Provincial Junior Male Athlete of the Year are: Matthew Fitzpatrick of baseball, Donnie Hunt of boxing and Richard Kelly of soccer.

The finalists for the Edward Browne Memorial Plaque for the Inter Canadian Team of the Year: Canada Winter Games Female Hockey Team, M.U.N. Women's Volleyball Team and Newfoundland Under 20 Rugby Team.

The finalists for the John Drinkwater Memorial Plaque for the 3M Coach of the Year are: Gary Martin of hockey, Pat Parfrey of rugby and Brian Power of baseball.

The finalists for the Graham Snow Memorial Plaque for Executive of the Year are: Bill Hogan of swimming, Tom Jacobs of rugby and Aden White of judo.
