Rosalind Pound, chairperson of the awards program, would like to announce the names of all nominees for the 1998 Sport Newfoundland and Labrador Annual Awards Program.

A total of 53 nominations were received from the provincial sports organizations, which had input from the media and the general public.

Fifteen nominations were for Junior Male and Female Athletes of the Year;
Sixteen nominations were for Senior Male and Female Athletes of the Year;
Six nominations for the Coach of the Year;
Seven nominations for the Executive of the Year; and
Nine nominations for the Team of the Year.

"The number of nominations once agin indicates considerable support throughout the province for the annual award provided by Sport Newfoundland and Labrador", comments Pound. She further points out "that although there is only one winner in each category, it is an honour for each person to be recognized for their outstanding performance in 1998 by their nomination alone."

"We would like to sincerely thank our major sponsors Inter Canadian - Canadian Airlines, Brookfield Dairy Group, Investors Group and 3M Canada."

The Provincial Awards Program Banquet and Presentation will take place at the Holiday Inn, St. John's on March 27, 1999.
