NOTE TO EDITORS:

Charles Furey, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, will host a news conference and presentation to outline the plans to celebrate Newfoundland and Labrador's 50th anniversary of Confederation with Canada, on March 31. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 12, at the Colonial Building in St. John's. Minister Furey will announce the performers and entertainers for the March 31 gala concert, as well as the list of esteemed speakers and moderators for Canada Conference '99, being held in St. John's from March 29-31. The corporate sponsors for Soiree '99 will also be announced at the event on March 12. The Government of Canada will be represented at the event by Senator Derek Lewis.
