NOTE TO EDITORS: Premier Brian Tobin and officials of the Provincial Command of the Royal Canadian Legion will participate in a Fly the Flag of Remembrance ceremony on November 1 at Confederation Building. The ceremony will honour the memory of those who died in the service of their country in all wars. Prior to the Flag Raising ceremony, the premier and representatives from the Royal Canadian Legion will sign two proclamations. One proclamation will officially start the Royal Canadian Legion's Remembrance Week poppy campaign. The other proclamation is regarding the Two Minute Wave of Silence on November 11, 1999 at 11 a.m.. The proclamations will be signed at 11:30 a.m. in the Premier's office. Royal Canadian Legion Command Remembrance Chair, Bill Titford, said the Flag Raising ceremony will commence at 12 noon. It will feature the traditional March on the Colours and performances by the Singing Legionnaires. The ceremony will also serve as the kick-off for Remembrance Week throughout the province, which will be observed from November 1 to November 11. Comrade Taylor French said almost every home in Newfoundland and Labrador was touched by the tragic losses in these world conflicts. He said the Flag Raising ceremony, together with the Remembrance Week activities, will provide a unique opportunity for the public to remember the courage, devotion and sacrifices of those whose lives were lost in the world wars and the Korean conflict.
